Creswell Model Village
Completed in March 2007, this multi million pound regeneration scheme has brought life and vitality back to a declining community. The Model Village was originally built for the Bolsover Colliery Company between 1896 and 1900 to house workers at the company's Creswell Colliery. In their time, these houses were Derbyshire's most notable experiment in miners' housing, extremely advanced and designed to encourage a healthy, happy and productive workforce. This massive regeneration scheme received significant contributions from Bolsover District Council, Meden Valley Making Places and the National Heritage Lottery Fund. Throughout the project, attention to detail ensured that only original materials were used on the exteriors of the properties, while all of the interiors were brought up to modern standards. Creswell Model Village now provides affordable rental properties to the local community.
